Description
A Rare American Rococo Carved and Laminated Rosewood Etagere Cabinet, c. 1850, attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, pierced gallery and bracket supports, mirrored back over frieze drawer and two cupboard doors, scrolled feet, height 73 in., width 46 1/2 in., depth 20 1/2 in Note: The use of seven-layer lamination to create the naturalistic grape-and-vine panels supporting the upper shelf on this étagère is indicative of the work of John Henry Belter. A firescreen from the Manney Collection and an étagère from the Service Collection, both attributed to Belter, feature similar carved and laminated panels. The drawer interior on this lot is well fitted with compartments, similar to those in a dresser bearing the stencil of Springmeyer Bros, Belter's successor, sold by Neal Auction Company as lot 628, October 4, 2003.
