Louisiana National Guard General Eugene Morphy Epaulettes, c. 1898, the japanned tin case signed "Gen'l Eugene A. Morphy/First Brigade L.S.N.G./N.O.", epaulettes with gold bullion fringe and single star, marked "left" and "right" with maker's mark, case height 6 in., width 10 in., depth 7 3/4 in Note: General E.A. Morphy served in the Confederate army. He married Mary Eliza Seip of Rapides Parish, LA., whose father was Dr. John Seip, owner of Oak Island Plantation. He was the son of Diego Morphy and Louise Emily Grivot, who was the daughter of General Grivot, the Adj. General of Louisiana pre and post Civil War, and was also a cousin of world champion chess player Paul Morphy.
