Description
Greece, ca. 3rd century BCE. Â Â Seven round appliques, all in high karat gold, done in repousse depicting, in profile, the head of Alexander the Great. Four equally spaced holes around the perimeter for attachment. Â Size: Â Each about 1/2" in diameter. Â Displayed in a black velvet display box.

A similar pair of Hellenistic appliques or buttons were sold at the Christies Jewelry auction, in December, 2006, Lot # 241, inserted as a central element in modern gold earrings. Â
