Description
Egypt, Roman period, ca 1st century CE. A wonderfully realistic three dimensional painted stucco / plaster sarcophagus mask of a youthful male. A majority of the paint remains showing skin tones and black stylized hair, or wig, with open eyes and a slight smile. Mounted to coffin-shaped hanging board (can be removed/re-mounted if so desired). Size: 8-1/4"H.
Provenance: Ex-Dorset, England private collection formed by the previous owner's grandfather who worked for a `telegraph` company in Egypt in the 1920`s.
