Description
India, 19th-early 20th century AD. Cast bronze tribal figure of a devotee standing on a drum shaped base and with applied decoration in the form of jewellery on the arms, legs and around the neck; the figure is balancing a large bowl on his head with his right hand and in his left is holding a bag shaped object. 2.8 kg, 42.5cm (16 3/4"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired before 1980. A votive piece for a rural shrine. Made in the Bastar region of central India.
