NOTHERN SONG-JIN DYNASTY 10TH- 12TH CENTURY
Diameter 4.5 in.
of a steeply rounded sides rising from a short knife-cut straight foot to an everted rim, fully covered with black glaze falling short above the foot, the interior decorated with splashed iridescent brown russets, the lip rim covered with an even band of white slip under a clear glaze alluring to the silver band appliqued to aristocratic wares like Ding ware during the Song, the unglazed foot revealing brownish granular stoneware body.
A similar tea bowl with russet-splashes and white rim is in the collection of Tokyo National Museum, illustrated in Illustrated Catalogues of Tokyo National Museum: Chinese Ceramics I, Tokyo, 1988, p. 152 .
