Description
We are extremely please to offer this extremely rare Victorian Edwardian J W Spears Punch & Judy Stand-up Puppet Theater Stage Booth with 13 Carved Wood Puppets. The wooden and lithographed theater booth was made in Bavaria Germany, circa 1913, and measures 65" tall x 29-1/2" wide. The front face features printed illustration, to represent a pair of musical busking gentlemen, dressed in period costumes. One is playing the drum, cymbals and woodwind instrument; and the other is playing barrel organ with Marmoset monkey animal that is dressed in military style with sword. This character also has a toothy grin and carries the collection plate for money donations. The top of the theatre facade illustrates Punch and Judy figures. The sides of the theater are covered in a printed fabric. Top marquee is partially restored. It obviously has playwear as well as a stain on the bottom as shown in the pictures. Also comes complete with the red muslin curtains and valance. The 13 puppets measures between 15-20" tall and have hand painted wood carved heads, wooden hands and feet, with fabric bodies. The hand and fingers insert into the head and lower limbs to allow operation. All puppets have playwear. Overall a very desirable set, and extremely hard to find!
