Mark Twain is sojourning in Heidelberg for several months, amusing himself and earning some money from lecturing - his experiences there were recounted in A Tramp Abroad, published in 1880. Desirous of some copies of his own books, perhaps to use in preparing his lectures, he writes to his English publisher: "My Dear Mr. Chatto: Won't you please send me a paper-covered copy of 'Innocents Abroad' & 'Roughing It' - & oblige Yours Faithfully, Samuel L. Clemens. Love to Conway."
