Philadelphia May 18 1792 to John Nicholson Comptroller General of Pennsylvania concerning the estate of Joseph Reed (1741-1785) delegate to the Continental Congress signer of the Articles of Confederation and President of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council. In part: ""...I supposed his acct. as President had been fully settled...The Statement you have now sent me...obliges me to go into the enquiry by an appeal...All that Mr. Reed received from the State was short of the expences actually incurred by the Office he held without taking into the estimate any compensation for the zealous exertions of his talens in the Public Service..."". Horizontal split repaired on verso else very good.
