Description
CARVED BONE RECOVERED AT LIBBY PRISON Piece of bone recovered at the site of Libby Prison and carved by a soldier occupying Richmond. The 1 3/4"" x 2"" section of polished bone was carved into a highly-stylized outline of a map of Virginia by Joseph Mauk Co. C 20th Pa. Vols. On one side Mauk has carved ""LIBBY PRISON VA"" and placed a star at the approximate location of the prison. On the reverse he inscribes the amulet: ""MAY THE 16/1865 J. MAUK THE CO. C 106 P.V."". Very good.
