ARTHUR LIEBEHENSCHEL (1901 - 1948) Commandant at the Auschwitz and Majdanek death camps during World War II. He was convicted of war crimes by the Polish government following the war and executed in 1948. Important content T.L.S. on SS Inspector of Concentration Camps letterhead 1p. 4to. Oranienburg Sep. 3 1941 to a eugenics court in Munich concerning ""Prevention Prisoner"" Wilhelm Letzing. Liebehenschel returns a volume of files to the court along with a transfer of the prisoner from Dachau. He further advises that at the time another concentration camp placement is not being considered. Holograph notes on the verso mention that the case is being accepted elsewhere and that the court Oranienburg and Dachau will be so notified signed by an unknown person three days later. ""Prevention prisoners"" were those simply suspected of crimes and held without charges...sometimes for years. Wilhelm Letzing never left Dachau - he is buried there today having died at the camp.
