Description
THE HONOLULU ADVERTISER - DECEMBER 7 1941 Rare complete Sunday edition of The Honolulu Advertiser SUNDAY MORNING DECEMBER 7 1941"" printed before the commencement of Japanese hostilities. The headlines read: ""F.D.R. WILL SEND MESSAGE TO EMPEROR ON WAR CRISIS...Japanese Deny Massing Troops For Thai War...Hirohito Hold Power to Stop Japanese Army..."". At the bottom of the page is a smaller article: ""Only Powerful Two-Ocean Fleet Can Defend U.S. Knox Asserts"". Bottom of paper heavily foxed chipped at horizontal fold still good. The Japanese responded to F.D.R.'s message quickly but the delay in translating it caused it...and the Japanese declaration of war contained with it...to be delivered after the first bombs had landed.
