SS OFFICER CANDIDATE DEGEN RECOVERED AT DACHAU SS officer candidate degen recovered by an American soldier upon the liberation of Dachau. Clearly made when material for such luxuries was at a premium, we see the grip lacks a wire wrap, and the oak leaf trim at the bottom of the grip is of lesser quality. The pommel nut bears SS runes, and the mounts and steel "D" guard are in perfect condition. The thinner style scabbard is in exceedingly fine condition, with only the hanger ring bearing a bit of paint loss. There are positively no dents or dings. The upper mount is stainless and features the Wotan knot decoration with pebbling between. The 33" unblemished and undamaged blade is marked by Solingen makers Pet. Dan. Krebs and bears their logo. A white leather washer, likewise unused, completes the ensemble. This "plain vanilla" late-war degen, with its drawstring sword bag, was recovered by Pvt. Norman B. Bunch, 45th Infantry, 176th Combat Reg't at the Dachau Supply Depot. Consigned by a family member, sold with one of the depot's letterheads which Bunch also obtained at Dachau.
