U.S.S. ARIZONA 1942 RELIGIOUS SERVICE BOOK An evocative relic of the doomed USS ARIZONA destroyed by a Japanese bomb at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7 1941 a prayer and service book printed with the vessel's name showing a printing date of 1942! The book is ""Song and Service Book for Ship and Field Army and Navy"" edited by Joan Bennett (New York: A. S. Barnes & Co.) 1942. 194pp. 8vo. with illustrations a collection of religious hymns recitations and procedures including military funeral procedures with sections dedicated to Protestants Jews and Catholics. The cover of the book bears a gilt title and the name of the vessel ""USS ARIZONA BB-39"" the gilding now faded. Fine. Sold with a second relic from the vessel a 5 1/2"" red painted steel ashtray with anchor and ""U.S.N."" beneath glass at center accompanied by a letter of provenance from one David Danielson a cook aboard the vessel who took the ashtray before his discharge in February 1940. Two pieces.
