COLMAR FREIHERR VON DER GOLTZ (1843 - 1916) ""Goltz Pasha"" Prussian Field Marshal and military writer. Served with the Ottomans bringing them to the gates of Athens was the ruthless military governor of Belgium during World War I and returned to Ottoman service where he indirectly contributed to the Armenian genocide. Scarce L.S. 1p. 4to. Dijon Nov. 26 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War. He writes in English concerning a ""token"" sent for ""refreshing officers and soldiers under my command"". He continues: ""...May this war and our successes be a lesson to the French neither to provoke any war of this kind again nor to pursue this course of overbearing politics..."". Paper tape repair on verso a marginal split else very good.
