Description
CARY'S NEW TERRESTRIAL & CELESTIAL GLOBES, EARLY 19TH C., TWO, H 36" W 18", ENGLISH: Two Cary globes, mounted in Regency style mahogany vase shaped pedestals; includes one Terrestrial globe, based on 'Captain Cook and Discoveries Made by Him', dated 1816, together with one Celestial globe, displaying 35,000 stars and constellations by Mr. Calren of the Royal Society. Early 19th Century, measuring H. 36" x 18".
Condition
Both globes have numerous scratches due to use (evident in the photos provided); the terrestrial globe has one repaired leg (in the photo, globe on right, left leg); scuffs noted to all feet. Chs The terrestrial globe has some deep circular scratches at the base of the globe. The globe of the world has an old repair at the base where it meets the bottom pole. This repair is approx. 2" x 1" and there is a deep 1" gouge and the finish is missing from this area. There is also a circular 1" dent at the side of the globe. From this dent there is a 3/4" long and 1/8" wide area where the finish is missing. The world globe also has an old repair at the top of the globe. Considering the age of these globes any repairs or scratches are to be expected, all in all these are beautiful antique globes. TW 9-29-15
