Description

ENGLISH CARVED BLUE JOHN URN-FORM TABLE LAMP, 19TH C., H 30" OVERALL:Carved Blue John stone urn with a black slate base and onyx moldings, and silvered metal mounts, H.13", as a lamp, H.30" overall. No apparent markings. The antique urn only measures H.12 1/4" (base 3 5/8" square); on a modern wood base.

Condition

Revised condition: A 1 1/4" x 1/2" repair to the rim of the finial; several small nicks to the uppermost rim of the urn also a 1/2" repair to the rim; small spot of residue (glue?) behind a leaf at the base of the urn; a 1" crack at two sides of the urn's base; uppermost onyx is chipped at one corner and has a 3/8" crack; a small "bruise" at one side (see photo); the Blue John plinth has very small nicks to all corners, largest of which approximately 1/4" (see additional photos). Chs 2/3/15 Catalog correction: The stone appears to be Blue John, not quartz. Chs 1/27/15
