This silver tankard was created by the Russian silversmith Aleksander Sokolov from the period of circa 1890 to 1895. The tapering body is engraved with strapwork within applied bands. The c-scroll handle is adorned with a dotted chevron border. The hinged domed lid with removable cap is inset with a silver coin of Nicholas II.
The tankard bears on the base the master’s mark ‘A?C’ (Aleksander Sokolov). The lid and the cap each bear the master’s mark ‘A?C’ (Alexander Sokolov), city mark St. Petersburg and fineness ‘84’. The condition is very good with later additions. It is 28 cm in height and weighs approximately 1145 grams in total. (tm)
