The first state of the second edition of the book that started it all, with the title on the cover stamped "The New Wizard of Oz" and with a period following the author's name on spine. The illustration on page 68 shows a tearful Cowardly Lion (changed in later issues).The copyright is in state "A" (no priority), with a single three line entry at top of page and the printer's four line imprint at the bottom. One of the most difficult of all the Oz editions to find. Bienvenue & Schmidt p. 6.
