Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Diquis culture, ca. 1000 CE. Here we have a carved stone figure representing a standing shaman in a trance-like state. The peg base male figure carved with fingers outspread, broad squared shoulders, demarcated musculature, face with pointed chin, drawn lips and lunate, rimmed eyes in tan-grey basalt. Diquis stone sculptures are admired for the abstract, geometric style. Â Size: Â 24"H (61 cm) x 8-1/2"W (21.5 cm).
Provenance: Ex-Rosenthal Collection, NY; Ex-David Stuart Collection, CA, collected 1960s.
