Description
Northern Peru, Moche II, ca. 300 CE.  Delightful pottery stirrup vessel in the form of a transformational beast that appears to be part jaguar and part frog.  Perhaps we could call it a fraguar…  Large ears, rounded nostrils, wide almond-shaped eyes, wavy striped body and bull's-eye at its tail.  Vessel is covered in a thick kaolin-based slip that gives it a wonderful deep and tactile finish.  Size:  6-1/2" L x 6-1/2" H.
