Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Moche III, ca. 400 to 500 CE. Ancient pottery stirrup vessel decorated on both sides in high-relief depicting crouching monkeys having curled tails and open toothy mouths. Tan ground with painted red-brown stripes and highlights. Â Size: 9-1/4"H.
Provenance: Ex-private German Collection, Ex Splendors of the World, ex-NYC auction, acquired in the 1950s.
