Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1300-1400 CE. Beautiful mold-made blackware bottle in form of bird, with head, wings, and tail modeled on body. At base of spout is a narrow band with an impressed step pyramid motif. Stands on raised base. Lovely form of this revered sky animal created by the Chimu people (900-1450 CE) of Peru who perfected distinctive blackware pottery, employing smoldering flames during the firing and then buffing the surface to produce a dull sheen. Size: 5-3/4"H (14.5 cm) .

Condition
A couple of minor chips to rim, repair to left wing and spout, one perforated lug filled, crack above and below right wing. Overall fair to good condition.
