cf. Moses Soyer, born in 1899 in Borisoglebsk, Russia, emigrated to the United States with his family in 1912. He and his two brothers, Raphael, a twin, and Issac, both painters, studied art in New York City. Moses attended school first at Cooper Union and then at the Ferrer Art School where he became acquainted with the Social Realist School of painting, also known as the Ashcan School. He studied under two of Americas most renowned Social Realist's, George Bellows and Robert Henri. His wife, Ida was a dancer, hence, dance themes, feature prominently amongst Moses Soyer's oeuvre.

The M. Soyer ptg. is in excellent condition, there does not appear to be any repainted areas, repairs, more than perhaps very minor loss to paint surface, if any, the backside of the canvas is nice and shows no damage origins of alteration or potential problems. The frame exhibits some signs of age it may be original to the work. .
