Large standing south German or Austrian gilt silver plate owl perched on a hand raised, plated tree branch with large glass eyes. The empty base of the perch appears to have once held a music box or some other key wound device. The style and construction is similar to south german 17th century silverwork from Augsberg and Nuremberg, but this interesting owl is definitely 19th or very early 20th century. There is some wear to the gilding exposing the silvered metal below.
