Item Details
Description
One electronically tested 14KT and 18KT yellow gold ladies custom cast & hand crafted cultured pearl and diamond brooch with a bright and patterned finish. The brooch features an elaborately garnished ornamental drop consisting of a freshwater cultured pearl set within an inner diamond accented star shaped ribbon and an outer blue enamel bezel with scrolling gold accents. The brooch is supported by a plaque with a freshwater cultured pearl set within flourishing gold details and diamond accents, completed by a horizontally placed pin. Area measurements 1.75 x 1.50 inch. Condition is good. The brooch is reminiscent of the jewelry designs from the Victorian Period. The Victorian period gets its name from England's Queen Victoria, who at eighteen was crowned in 1837. The queen was the leading influence on jewelry styles for the next sixty years. It became fashionable to wear several necklaces at once and to wear chokers high on the neck. The jewelry of the period is characterized by light, open work using several techniques of filigree, piercing, canaille and reposes. Many pieces were fabricated from thin sheets of gold that were chased and engraved. Containing: Two freshwater cultured pearls, 5.5mm in size. The pearls are white and cream in color with a high luster, thick nacre, spotted. Freshwater Cultured Pearls are farmed in freshwater lakes and grown in mussels. In China, most pearl farms use the indigenous Hyriopsis Cumingii mussel. The irritants and the mussels used in making freshwater pearls are smaller than all of the saltwater pearl oysters. Freshwater pearl cultivating techniques can produce multiple pearls in one mussel. Freshwater pearls take from at least 3 years to as long as 6 years before they are ready for harvest. Freshwater pearls can be found in almost any shape. By adding very small quantities of additives into the water on a pearl farm, the color of freshwater pearls can be manipulated to almost any color of the rainbow including black. Freshwater pearls are almost seedless, because they are tissue nucleated, using a piece of mantle tissue only, without a bead. The pearl develops around the mantle tissue, which can over time degenerate, leaving a pearl that is composed almost entirely of nacre. Two bezel set Tablet cut diamonds, measuring 2.20 x 1.80 x 0.70mm (depth est.) approximate total weight of 2 Stones = 0.06ct. Graded in the setting. Clarity: I-1 to I-2. Color: I - J Twenty-Two bead set rose cut diamonds, measuring 1.70 - 1.40 x 0.70mm (depth est.) approximate total weight of 22 Stones = 0.21ct. Graded in the setting. Clarity: I-2 to I-3. Color: I - K. Total Weight of Diamonds 0.27ct. Total Weight of Brooch 21.39 grams. AIG Appraised at $6,065.00.
