c. 1860 Civil War Period, Colorful Patriotic Paper Ribbon, Legend reads: “Our Country And Our Flag - The Union At All Hazards,” Showing an American Sailor nailing the 34-Star American Flag to a Flagpole or Mast, Extremely Fine.
Authentic, printed in red and blue this exciting white Paper Ribbon measures 8” x 2.75” and depicts a sailor who has climbed a Flagpole or Mast and, with a hammer in his right hand, is driving in a nail to secure a 34-Star American Flag. The inscription reads, "Our Country and Our Flag-The Union At all Hazards." The message is clearly a refusal to lower the American flag, or by extension, a refusal to give up or compromise. Possibly printed for the Presidential Campaign. Light toning at margins, otherwise colorful in red and blue on period white wove paper.
