It has been suggested that chickens were kept in baskets like these. He wears a light hat. 1/6 plate daguerreotype in a stippled arch-top mat, in a case with rose silk pad, separated cover. No scratches or wipes, but the plate has lost some of its rich tonality, probably from some prior cleaning. [2+]
