Early ambrotype, gent with strap over shoulder

This ¼ plate ambrotype appears to be an early example. The pleasant face is nicely tinted and the figure stands out sharply against the creamy gray background. The plate with the ambrotype is still sealed with original paper seals to the backing plate that has been darkened. It is in an early octagonal mat. The vertical streak in the upper left is a not unattractive artifact of its making. In a case with separated cover. [3+]
