Lot 41 save

Northfield MN Jesse James bank robbery site, early

Sign In to see what this sold for

A corner view of the block containing, at the rear of its left face, the First National Bank of Northfield, scene of the famous 1876 raid by Jesse James and the Youngers, in which gang members were killed or captured.

This is an early 4" x 6" gelatin-silver print with the backstamp of Sumner Studio, the photograph studio in Northfield at the time of the raid.

A booklet about the raid, published by the Northfield News in 1933, is included in this lot. It contains a reproduction of an early view of this same block, but the present photograph is clearly much earlier. The photograph is stained and edges are tattered. This came from a house in Northfield, that included the following lots. [D2]
