The great Indian Bengali poet, philosopher, spiritual leader, won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913. In 1916 he made an important visit to Japan, and then traveled to the United States.
This is an 8 1/8" x 10 5/8" matte gelatin-silver print portrait taken in Japan by K. Machara, Yokahama, that is signed by Tagore in ink at the bottom of the print. The mount has Machara's stamp. This is a wonderful image that captures his spiritual character in tune with the Japanese architecture and landscape. There is a ¾" tear in the extreme left of the top that can be easily repaired. This is accompanied by several pages of a typed informational text that was prepared for his visit to the U.S. [D3] Condition report[D3]See explanation of codes below
