Lively Midwest Street Scene Tom Leonard 1944

11" x 14" vintage toned gelatin-silver print on original board mount with Leonard's W. 56th St. New York stamp on verso. The ornate shape of the windows, the tree and shadows, create a lively composition.

This came with two terrific street scenes by Leonard that were titled by him "Milan Ohio." They have a different, more moody character than this photograph, but I had assumed that this, too, was from Milan. Two residents of Milan have informed me that this must be another location.

In any case the interest of these photographs is only in part a depiction of a particular location. They are wonderfully composed and have a value that transcends being just a "view" of a particular place. [4]
