Description
Pewter medal in honor of Franz Joseph II's proclomation of freedom of religious worship within his monarchy. Hungary, 1782. 45 mm. diameter. 31 grams. Bust of Joseph, emperor of the "Holy Roman Empire" on the front of the coin. The reverse depicts a rabbi, catholic priest and protestant priest, topped by the emblem of an eagle and G-d's name and Latin text, 'we rest underneath His wings'. This commemorates the charter of religious toleration that the emperor issued in 1781. Mark of a hole for hanging. VF.
