The French sculptor Thomas François Cartier was specialized in depictions of animals, preferring hunting dogs. His present vividly composed bronze shows two dogs scuffling for a dead hare.

The brown patinated bronze sculpture is signed ‘CARTIER’ on the plinth in the cast, and bears the stamp ‘Cire Perdu’. It is overall in very good condition. The bronze measures 34 x 46 x 20 cm.

Thomas François Cartier (1879-1943)

The French sculptor Thomas François Cartier was born 1879 in Marseille and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Georges Gardet (1863-1939). Cartier especially created animal sculptures of hunting dogs, lions and other big cats, characterized by their great accuracy. From 1904, he exhibited his works in the Paris Salon and was awarded a Gold Medal in 1927. (fea)

Auctionata charges the resale rights tax pursuant to Section 26 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) towards the buyer in case of the sale of an original work of art or photography prior to 70 years having lapsed since the death of their creator. Therefore, Auctionata charges when purchasing a good – if a protection as an original work of art or photography is given – starting from a hammer price of EUR 400 an additional amount, which is calculated according to Section 26 (2) German Copyright Act (UrhG) and which does not exceed the amount of EUR 12,500.
