A still life of sun flowers situated in a plant nursery, painted in dynamic impasto brushwork. Curt Meyer-Eberhardt is well-known mostly in South Germany

The present painting by Curt Meyer-Eberhardt refers to the famous sun flowers by Vincent van Gogh. The artist depicted an opulent bouquet in a vase, placed on a planting table in front of a plant nursery. Various nuances and a dynamic brushwork characterize the blossoms, the greenhouses as well as the landscape.

The painting is signed lower left ‘MeyerEberhardt’. The overall condition is very good as well as the ledger frame. The work measures 105 x 117 cm, the framed dimensions are 110 x 122 cm.

Curt Meyer-Eberhardt (1895-1977)

The artist was born 1895 as Kurt Ernst Meyer in Leipzig before he changed his name into Curt Meyer-Eberhardt. He studied in Weimar 1912-1917 under Max Thedy, Theodor Hagen and Walther Klemm. After a short stay in Munich he returned to Weimar at the Staatliche Bauhaus, where he attended the portrait course of Lyonel Feininger in 1919/20. Subsequently he settled in Munich. Until the early 1920s expressionist and cubistic tendencies influenced his oeuvre, followed in the 1930s by impressionist and naturalistic influences combined with elements, he adopted from Cézanne. A wider public knows Meyer-Eberhardt for his affecting depictions of animals, which were published by Hanfstaengl Editions in Munich.
