The present 4-light candelabra by Schierholz & Sohn dates back to the 1st half of the 20th century and impresses by the imaginative form in the rococo style and the lush decor. A tree-like shaft rises above a four-footed rocaille base and forms a central curved flame and three side arms on the top. Besides the many different flowers, the sculpted nobleman with a tricorn is especially striking in this piece.
The underside bears the manufacturer's mark and the impressed numbers 637/12. The candelabra has been restored at several breakpoints. Some flowers and spouts show small losses. The total height of the candelabra is 44 cm.
Porcelain Manufactory C.G. Schierholz & Sohn
The German entrepreneur and manor owner Christian Gottfried Schierholz (1787-1851) took over the porcelain manufactory Plaue in 1817. At that time, the factory was located South of Arnstadt, and Schierholz relocated a part of the production to Dornheim. Later on, his son Julius Adelbert became a shareholder, and the company was renamed in C.G. Schierholz & Sohn. Hugo, the younger son, also took part in the company. The porcelain manufactory painted and burned porcelain in Dornheim for a period of 18 years. (cko)
