Silver frame

Good condition
Provenance: Formerly estate of the artist Prof. Richard Muller, Dresden (on the reverse of the frame and the backing board with the estate stamp)
Beautiful study of nature capturing the rock formation of Olevano that Albert Hertel created later in his Berlin years after his first visit to Italy; his landscape oil studies fetch up to around €2,500 at the auction market
Berlin painter Albert Hertel traveled to Italy in 1863, where he eventually spent four years travelling through various areas. This is, among others, where he found the inspiration for his landscape paintings. The study presented here shows such an impression depicting a view of the rock garden in Olevano.
The painting is inscribed on a label ‘Professor Albert Hertel / Felsengarten – Olevano / 1873’ on the reverse. It is in good condition. The new varnish is lightly darkened, therefore no findings under UV. Slight abrasions at the edges, otherwise good overall impression.
