Good condition
The present composition was painted by the German artist Karl Neuss. It reveals a picturesque farmstead located in the Harz Mountains. The painting is characterized by greyish blue and mat white tones and impressively reflects the calm atmosphere in winter.
The work is signed lower left ‘K. Neuss’. It is verso additionally signed in pencil ‘K. Neuss’, dated ’23.12.37’ and inscribed ‘Altenau’. The painting is in good condition considering its age; inspection under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching to the snow white parts. The cardboard measures 43.7 x 55 cm, the framed dimensions are 59.5 x 70.5 cm.
