Very good condition
This print on handmade paper excellently demonstrates Mimmo Paladino’s collaboration with the Mixografia print workshop which led to the creation of distinctive processes for three dimensional printing. Characterized by a textured surface and fine details in bold colors, a trademark sculptural head in profile is juxtaposed with repetitions of the number ‘2’. Finding both the ancient and modern as sources of creative inspiration with particular interest in the language of signs, Paladino metaphorically represents a being of wisdom and arcane knowledge.
Executed in 2004, this Mixografia® print on handmade paper is signed, dated, and numbered sixteen from an edition of fifty. Published by Mixografia, the work has full margins with decked edges and is framed. The sheet measures 31 x 23 x 1 inches. In overall very good condition with no evidence of tears or repairs.
Mimmo Paladino (Italian, b. 1948)
Born Domenico Paladino in southern Italy, Mimmo Paladino played in pivotal role in reviving interest in painting at the end of the 1970’s when minimalism and conceptualism pervaded the art world. He was also one of the leading artists of the neo-expressionist Italian Transavantgarde movement in the 1980’s. His paintings, sculptures, and prints hold iconography suggestive of religious themes and ancient classicism. With numerous retrospectives at institutions like the Kunstmuseum Basel and Guggenheim, Paladino is internationally represented in collections like Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Galleries of Scotland, Tate Gallery, and Bilbao Fine Arts Museum.
