DESCRIPTION: George E. Bissell (American, 1839-1920). Bronze sculpture on marble pedestal. Abraham Lincoln. Stamped on back of base "Geo. E. Bissell Sc.", "Copyrighted", "Gorham Co Founders", "Q49", and "GAC" logo. Front of base with dedication to Alfred G. Son for "excellent work done" during "the Third Liberty Loan Campaign, April, 1918 as Chairman of the committee in the Dress and Waist Industry". Born in New Preston, Connecticut, Bissell served as a private during the American Civil War. At the end of the war he joined his father's marble business in New York. He studied sculpture abroad during 1875 and 1876, and lived in Paris from 1883 to 1896 with occasional visits to America. MEASUREMENTS: Bust 18" high. Pedestal 43" high. CONDITION: Light surface wear to bust, pleasing overall patina.
