Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany and Co. was started by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in 1837 as a ‘stationary and fancy goods’ store with a $1000 advance from Tiffany’s father. The company achieved international recognition for their silver craftsmanship at the 1867 Paris World’s Fair. What aided them in their early success was the fact that they were the first American design company to use the British silver standard of 92% pure silver. Eventually Tiffany & Co. opened the first American design school for silver, headed by the famed silversmith Edward C. Moore. By 1870, Tiffany & Co. had become America’s leading silversmith, gradually moving into fine jewelry and timepieces. To this day, Tiffany & Co. is a well-respected and fashionable international company, producing elegant silver pieces to grace the homes of those who admire the work.

Paloma Picasso (born 1949)

Paloma Picasso, born in Paris, is the daughter of Pablo Picasso and Françoise Gilot. Her career began in 1968 as a costume designer in Paris. She was met with praise from critics early on for her rhinestone necklaces she created out of flea market finds, which subsequently led to her enrollment in a jewelry course. Soon, she was asked to design accessories for one of Yves Saint Laurent’s collections and by 1971, she was working for the Greek jewelry company Zolotas. In 1980, she began her collaboration with Tiffany & Co. and, shortly after, launched her own brand, ‘Paloma Picasso’. Today, Paloma Picasso is known internationally for her jewelry, handbags, fashion accessories, cosmetics, housewares and perfume.

Gucci

The House of Gucci was founded in 1921 by the master upholsterer Guccio Gucci as a workshop for leather goods in Florence. Gucci became well-known in 1947 after introducing a handbag with a bamboo handle, which is still popular today. After the founder’s death, the company’s success continued until the 1980s, when the previously family-owned company was partially sold. Since 2004, Gucci belongs to the French holding company Kering and is a part of the Gucci Group NV. Besides fashion and accessories, Gucci also sells perfumes, jewelry, watches and eyeglasses.
