Roberto Coin (Italian, 1944- )
Roberto Coin was born in 1944 in Venice, Italy. Having lost his father at a young age, Coin was sent to boarding school where he learned about hotel management. After successfully working in the hospitality industry for several years, he sold his hotel in his early thirties in order to pursue his real passion: design. After designing for various Italian jewelers, Coin decided to once again start his own business, and his eponymous company was born in 1996. His jewelry became an instant success and is still a best-selling jewelry brand. Coin developed a signature style of placing a very small ruby in nearly every one of his pieces because of the ancient belief that keeping rubies close to one’s skin would promote happiness and health. Roberto Coin still continues to produce luxury jewelry.
