Signature of John Hancock (1737-1793), Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Autograph on ADS dated April 27, 1781. Document is a military appointment of James Foster as 1st Lieutenant of the fifth Company, 2nd Regiment of Militia from Middlesex County, Massachusetts. . Document measures 12" x 12" and exhibits previous mounting, fold splits, and some staining. Hancock's signature is clear and unaffected. Sold with 3 other documents related to Foster including1.) His muster sheet (4.75" x 9.25") dated July 30, 1782. 2.) Subpoena to appear in court (5" x 9") dated July 12, 1791. 3.) Loan document (Fragment missing, 12" x7.5") dated May 7, 1784. All three documents exhibit mounting, stains, and folds.
