A Sumakh kilim with three large rhombs
This is a northeastern Caucasian Sumak kilim from the Derbent area, dating to the early 20th century. The interior field shows three large rhombs in blue on wine red fond. It is framed by a red border with ornaments in the most frequently applied colors of this carpet dark blue, orange, hops green and mustard yellow. The exterior border with smaller ornaments is framed by two bands in a brighter red. A narrow meander can be found along the edges.
The Sumak kilim is in age-according good condition. Only the fringes are threadbare. The dimensions are 4.12 x 2.45 m.
