Description
Large archive of letters of Rabbi Yitzchak Simchah Horowitz Av Bet Din of Hartford (Connecticut, US). 1920s-30s. Most were sent to his family members in Tel Aviv. Yiddish, English and Hebrew.
Rabbi Yitzchak Simcha Horowitz (1869-1936) was born in Navahrudak, studied in the yeshivas of Mir and Volozhin and received ordination from his teacher the Netziv and from Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor Av Bet Din of Kovne. In 1893, he became one of the first rabbis to arrive in America. He was appointed Rabbi of Hartford (in the state of Connecticut) and served in the city rabbinate for 44 years. He maintained responsa contacts with Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, Rabbi Chaim of Brisk and the author of "Aruch HaShulchan". Authored the "Yad HaLevi" on "Sefer HaMitzvot" Le'HaRambam (Jerusalem 1927).
