598. FREDERICK STUART CHURCH (1842-1924). American oil and watercolor painter and illustrator known for his allegorical compositions of anthropomorphic animals. Pen and wash drawing, 6½"x10" on beige art paper he entitles Idyl Maud R beside "Copyright by F. S. Church N.Y. 1904." A study for a larger work, he pens beneath a description of the scene and colors to be used: "A young girl red hair white lily in hair dark green back ground. Girl dressed in pink. The Flamingos pink in color. Water lily pads water in foreground." Expertly inlaid to overall 8½"x12". Minor paper loss at top mount; else Fine example. Est: $350-550
