625. JAMES MONTGOMERY FLAGG (1877-1960). American illustrator and writer best known for his World War I recruiting poster of Uncle Sam declaring, "I Want You." He was a regular contributor to many popular periodicals of the day. ANS, 1p, 8"x11", March 2, 1938. To an autograph collector chiding him for not having included a "stamped self addressed envelope. That's why you don't get a reply - Live and Learn! James Montgomery Flagg." Boldly penned. Plus a TNS "J. M. F.," 1p, 8½"x7", Nov 21, 1948. On his personal letterhead to famous radio personality Mary Margaret McBride. In full, "You confirm me in my misogyny. Who but a sadistic female would send an aging artist such foul snapshots of himself!" Darkly initialed in red indelible pencil across bottom margin. Bottom edge slightly uneven; light stain at left edge overlays part of salutation; light general toning; small partial fold separation with no paper loss; else VG. Est: $250-500
