Turbulent and dramatic, this group of two etchings by Richard Bosman demonstrate the artist’s ability to depict climatic moments in untold narratives. “Forced Entry” shows a robed man kicking open a door, his energy forcefully etching onto the page. “Life Raft” depicts a choppy seascape, the waves deep and black, as three men struggle to climb aboard a life raft.
Each print is signed and numbered, published by Brooke Alexander, Inc. Both in overall good condition, not examined out of frame.
Richard Bosman (American, b. 1944)
From Madras in India, painter and printmaker Richard Bosman attended The Bryam Shaw School of Painting and Drawing, The New York Studio School, and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture between 1964 and 1970. Known for his turbulent woodblock prints of a climactic moment in a mysterious narrative, Bosman revived dramatic representational paintings in the 1980’s which were particularly inspired from the single-frame violence and romance of pulp fiction. A Guggenheim Fellow, his works have been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows while being collected by institutions like the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and National Museum of American Art.
