Luxurious tea urn or samovar in excellent quality by one of the largest and most prestigious Stockholm silversmiths of the 19th century!
This tea urn was made by the silversmith Gustav Möllenborg, who was active in Stockholm between 1823 and 1850. His works are mostly characterized by neo-rococo designs. Thus this piece is also richly decorated with floral and rocaille elements. A profiled stem is raised on a quatrefoil rocaille base and holds a bulbous round body with foliate handles. The ornate valve has a finial made of bone. The upper section is richly decorated with rocaille and flower embellishments in relief. A delicate flower finial crowns the lid. The latter has a hole allowing the water vapor to escape. The capacity of the tea urn is 6.5 liters.
The tea urn is hallmarked with the date mark ‘N4’, illegible town mark (Stockholm), control mark Kattfoten (three crowns) and maker’s mark ‘MÖLLENBORG’ on the base of the shaft as well as on the side. It is in very good condition with only minor signs of age and wear. The height measures 42 cm and the weight is approx. 4.7 kg. (tfa)
