This Symphonion was manufactured by the musical instrument manufactory of the Brothers Lochmann, whose founder Paul Lochmann invented the perforated plates in 1886. To ‘preserve’ music in a technical way and to be able to recall it at any time, has been a dream of music lovers for centuries. Such a Symphonion disk music box was a milestone in the history. The present music box is ready for use and features a beautiful sound. The 31 perforated discs play pieces by popular songs, waltzes and marches
The Symphonion is in overall good condition, showing minor wear consistent with age. The box with some worm damage (inactive) and minor losses to the veneer. One tooth is broken. The discs show corrosion. Some are warped and with minimal material loss. The box measures 27 x 47 x 37.5 cm and the diameter of the discs is 30 cm. (tfa)
